What is a sai?

A sai is a traditional Okinawan weapon that consists of a metal rod with two prongs known as yoku projecting from the handle. It is typically made of steel or iron and can vary in length, usually around 20-24 inches.

The sai was originally used as a farming tool for planting rice, but became a weapon for self-defense during the Okinawan period of feudalism. It was popularized by Okinawan martial arts, particularly in the practice of Kobudo.

In martial arts, the sai can be used for both offensive and defensive techniques, including striking, blocking, and grappling. It requires a high level of skill to effectively wield the sai in combat.

Today, the sai is still used in some styles of martial arts, as well as being a popular weapon for cosplay and traditional martial arts demonstrations.
